The Kazbegi-Dadiani family papers was donated to the Davis Center Collection at Fung Library by Christopher Shepard in 2022. The Kazbegis and Dadianis were Georgian aristocratic families. A branch of the family (joined by marriage), fled to Europe and eventually the U.S. after the Bolshevik Revolution.
The “protagonists” of this collection are Marina von Moltke Langfeld, née Princess Kasbek, and her mother Chakuria Kasbek (Mima). According to the donor (Marina’s grandson): “I do know that [after the Revolution] they went to Silesia, then to Paris and ultimately Berlin - where my grandmother Marina was married to Helmuth von Molke and her mother Chakuria (Mima) stayed in Paris. They left Berlin for the USA during the War after my mother was born in 1944. At this point the Georgian family had relatives in Palm Beach and Lake Forrest, IL but my family settled in Freeport, Long Island with my Grandmother’s second husband (who was instrumental in getting them out of Germany due to his connections in the German/US government.”
